Smoked Walnut

Elevate your interior design to new heights of luxury and warmth with Smoked Walnut, a centerpiece of the Shinnoki prefinished wood veneer collection available at Design One Source. Walnut has always been synonymous with high-end craftsmanship, but Smoked Walnut offers a profound level of depth and character that standard walnut cannot match. Through a specialized fuming or “smoking” process, the natural tannins in the wood react to create a darker, more intense chocolate-brown palette that permeates the entire thickness of the veneer. This process doesn’t just darken the wood; it enhances the iconic, swirling cathedral grains and subtle figure, giving the panels a rich, aged appearance that feels both historic and cutting-edge. It is the definitive choice for executive suites, luxury residential libraries, and high-stakes hospitality environments.

The visual mastery of Shinnoki Smoked Walnut is powered by Decospan’s proprietary “mixmatch” splicing technology. In traditional veneer manufacturing, panels are often book-matched, which can create a repetitive, mirrored “bar-code” effect that can look artificial in large-scale architectural installations. Shinnoki breaks this mold by randomly jointing veneers from different trees. This meticulous process ensures that every panel mimics the appearance of solid lumber, providing a continuous, harmonious grain flow that remains consistent across an entire project. For designers, this means the ability to specify the prestige of real walnut for expansive wall paneling and long runs of cabinetry with the absolute confidence that the color and texture will remain uniform from the first board to the last.

Performance and ease of installation are where Shinnoki Smoked Walnut truly excels. Every panel arrives at your project site completely prefinished, having undergone an industrial process of brushing to enhance the wood’s texture, staining for color precision, and lacquering for ultimate protection. The surface is shielded by six layers of an advanced, UV-cured urethane lacquer, resulting in a refined 2% “Super Matt” sheen. This ultra-low sheen level provides a velvety, dry-touch sensation that mimics the feel of raw, hand-sanded timber while providing a robust barrier against micro-scratches, moisture, and common household chemicals. By eliminating the need for on-site sanding and staining, Shinnoki significantly reduces labor costs, project timelines, and the environmental impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on the job site.

Sustainability and health are foundational to the Smoked Walnut offering. The veneers are sourced from responsibly managed forests and are FSC-certified, ensuring your project supports ethical forestry. The veneer is bonded to a premium MDF core that is NAF (No Added Formaldehyde) and CARB II compliant, prioritizing the health and safety of indoor environments. This makes Shinnoki Smoked Walnut an ideal choice for high-end residential homes and sensitive commercial environments where indoor air quality is a top priority.

To ensure a flawless and professional result, Design One Source provides a comprehensive system of complementary products. This includes matching edge banding for a seamless transition from the face to the edge, as well as color-matched repair pens and markers for minor on-site adjustments. By specifying Shinnoki Smoked Walnut from Design One Source, you are choosing a material that defines the intersection of natural beauty and modern engineering. It offers the prestige of fumed walnut with the durability and convenience of a high-performance surface, ensuring your design remains beautiful, resilient, and timeless.
